A short film/documentary about amateur graffiti artists in Chicago and how two writers still manage to do their thing in the Windy City. Whether you like graffiti or not, their dedication is amazing.
This project was for one of my first classes at Columbia College — I think it was something like ‘Documentary Filmmaking 101’ with my fantastic teacher Dan Rybicky. I was so lucky to find the subject of the film from one of my good friends Bryant, after simply pointing to some graffiti on the L-train and asking “damn, I wonder how they did that?” Bryant simply said “Oh I know that dude” and from there I met Vock & Woem. In film-school fashion, I shot this entire thing on my Canon Rebel T3i.
I was deeply saddened to find out one of the stars of this doc, Woem, passed away shortly after this premiered. He was a victim of drug use and fentanyl — the fentanyl crisis remains the deadliest drug epidemic in U.S. history.
